Visibility Reflection

Visibility distinguishes between the two types of the imaginative process. The first type starts at the word and arrives at the visual image. On the other hand, the second type starts with the visual image and arrives at its verbal expression. Writing or reading would be an example of the first type. For example, first you use the words and place them in a way to create a visual image that the reader creates in their head. Cinema is also a form of the first type. In cinema the director first establishes his/her ideas and writes them on the page and they are later turned into an image as the film is produced. The second type is a little bit harder for me to place. In one hand the visualization and creation of art could be an example but I think that the creation often begins with a word in mind. However, as an observer looks at the art they first see the image and then associate it with verbal expression to give the piece meaning.

  1. Kassidy, I found it interesting that you stated from the text that visibility distinguishes between the two types of the imaginative process. I agree that the first type can be compared to cinema because the director visualizes his scene before putting anything on paper. I also believe it was worth mentioning that creation often begins with a word in mind.

  2. Hi Kassidy,

Similar to you, I was confused by this text. I actually had to read it a few times to understand what was being said. The most profound message I got from this text was that there are two forms of imaginative processes our minds can enter. What caught my eye about your review was how arriving to the meaning of a piece is brought about simply by looking at it.

  3. I really liked how you went in to such depth about each of the aspects of the imaginative process. I also thought it was interesting how you expressed the way that you perceived each aspect and how easy or hard it was for you to do so.

  4. It is interesting to see that you viewed this reading differently than me. I didn't look at the imaginative process is a piece by piece mentality like you did, and it was refreshing to see it elaborated this way.

  5. I found it really interesting how you interpreted the first aspect of the imaginative process. I didn't really think of it as writing words to depict a visual image; personally, I interpreted this process in reverse: seeing words and creating our own images from them.
